DYSA Teen Learn to Sail – 420s

Welcome to DYSA’s Adult/Teen Learn to Sail 420s Program
Whether you're brand new to sailing or looking to refresh your skills, this course offers hands-on instruction in one of the most popular training boats in the world — the 420.

Location: Dunedin Commumity Sailing Center

Class Size: Limited to 10 students per session
Fee: $100 per 3-class session

Important:
A valid email address is required during registration to ensure you receive important updates or cancellation notices.
Classes will be held unless canceled by the coach or Shore Director due to weather or unforeseen circumstances.

What is 420 Sailing?

The 420 is a two-person sailing dinghy, widely used for youth and adult training, collegiate sailing, and competitive racing. It's an ideal boat for learning because it teaches sailors teamwork, balance, and a strong foundation of boat-handling skills.

In this class, students will learn:

Basic rigging and de-rigging of the 420 sailboat
Points of sail — how to steer and adjust sails based on wind direction
Tacking and jibing — essential maneuvers for changing course
Crew and skipper roles — how to work together as a team on the water
Basic navigation and safety practices
Understanding wind shifts, currents, and docking techniques

Our courses focus on building confidence, developing communication skills, and providing a solid foundation for anyone interested in recreational sailing or moving on to racing. Classes are small for personalized instruction and real hands-on experience.

No previous sailing experience required!
