Sailing Classes
Sailing classes will be held on Sundays and run for a total of 9 sessions.

Please use the registration link below to view the exact dates. There are two separate sessions offered each year—Spring and Fall—and you must register individually for each session.

Location: Dunedin Causeway
Registration Fee: $450 per session - scholarships available

Ages 8 years - 13 years

Exploring Sailing (OPPIs)

For new sailors or those seeking more experience, this beginner class introduces youth to the fundamentals of sailing with a focus on fun, water safety, and skill-building. Students will learn rigging, points of sail, and wind awareness.

Ages: 8–13
Time: 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Opti Green Team (Exploring Green Fleet - IODs)

Designed for newer sailors ready to build their skipper skills. Ideal for returning students who can confidently sail upwind.

Prerequisite: Comfortable sailing upwind and previous DYSA experience*
Ages: 8–13
Time: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Opti Fleet Racing (IODs)

Advanced class focused on racing skills and rules for experienced Opti sailors.

Prerequisite: Previous DYSA or racing experience*
Ages: 8–13
Time: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Gear

Students must bring:

USCG-approved PFD with a whistle - required
Closed-toe water shoes - required
Hat, sunglasses, sunblock, and appropriate water clothing
Drinking water, snack, towel, and dry clothes
Wetsuits are recommended when the air and water temperature are cooler.
